Airtel doubles the speed for Broadband customers at no extra cost

Broadband offer from AirtelOn a recent press statement Airtel announced that the broadband speed for all customers has been baselined to 512 Kbps… Wow… Moreover, those who are subscribed to 512 kbps and 1 Mbps will be doubled to 1 Mbps and2 Mbps respectively. All this upgrades are free and costs nothing to the users.

During this IPL season, Airtel offers an increased bandwidth of 2 Mbps for its customers to watch IPL on the Youtube channel.

As found in the press release the key changes are

  • Upgrades all existing customers to a minimum of 512 Kbps speed at no extra cost
  • Doubles broadband speeds of 512 Kbps to 1 Mbps and 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps at no extra cost
  • Launches Impatience Plans- offers 4Mbps plans, starting Rs.899/ month

The upgrades come at no extra cost to existing customers and will be completed by June 2010 pan India. Airtel also announced the launch of ‘Impatience Plans’ – an industry first for broadband, by offering 4 Mbps speed plans starting at a path breaking Rs. 899/ month.

Speaking on the occasion, K Srinivas, Joint President-Telemedia Services, Bharti Airtel said, “We are delighted to provide superior internet browsing experience to our customers through these high speed plans. Massifying broadband experience in India has been the pivotal to Airtel’s strategy for Broadband. These initiatives bring in a new paradigm for broadband in India”.

The Impatience Plans will be available in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore. As part of the Impatience Plan offerings, customers can either avail an Unlimited Data Transfer Plan OR opt for a Continous Hi Speed Plan-details as below.

It seems to me that Airtel is gearing towards providing a base bandwidth of 1 Mbps to all its customers in the coming months
