According to Newyork Times it is highly likely that Google will be adding social features to Gmail. In our earlier post regarding Facebook adding email to its services, it was a thought that Facebook might be taking some of the Google traffic. Apparently, now it appears that it will be the other way around and Google might be taking the upperhand for the timebeing.
Google is expected to add these features during this week, if not today. Google might allow its users to post Facebook like status updates and follow Facebook and Twitter, which could tempt people to visit the site frequently to check what their friends are doing.
Google already has some considerable products in the social spectrum such as Orkut a social network, profile service and recently they added the Social Profiles. These products are not giving the Facebbok or Twitter kind of attention for Google with some exceptions on Orkut, which is a popular tool in India.
Will this tweak at Gmail will help Google to gain the required social media status?
