Google has rolled out the Buzz to most of its Gmail users starting yesterday. I have my buzz enabled only by today after noon. First impression is that it is not really a Facebook clone and it can give some more social face to Gmail.
Google Buzz, definitely challenges Facebook as well as Twitter and for me it appears more as a Twitter killer than Facebook killer.
Google Buzz generates posts based on your activity in the connected sites. A connected site is a partner site such as Youtube, Picasa, Flickr, Twitter, Google reader, Google chat status etc…
It could be easy for the followers to keep track of the activities you will be doing; it allows users to quickly share messages, Web links and photos with friends and colleagues directly within Gmail, a popular email system
By integrating Buzz directly into Gmail, Google hopes to jumpstart its social networking push by leveraging the large pool of Gmail users. This gives them a competitive advantage over starting something new from scratch.
Looking at the specifics of Buzz, I can see some Google Wave like features in addition to the Facebook and Twitter ones. Is it challenging itself with two products with similar features? Google does this with its Android and Chromium OS.
When someone post an update, I get an email. It might be annoying to get so much emails a day; anyways good thing is that if someone comments to your Buzz, no email is being triggered. and its very annoying when the comments are sent across as emails. I have received a good number of comments and Buzz as email; Nope, I don’t want this.
Google appears to be putting a heavy emphasis on mobile and location-based capabilities, weaving Buzz technology into the mobile versions of its flagship website and its online maps products. The company also announced a special mobile application for Buzz that will run on smartphones based on Google’s Android software, Windows Mobile and the Symbian operating system.
Google might complete the roll out of Buzz to Gmail users over the next few days.
Let us see how the users are finding it and will it be a killer application or just another Google application which attracts only some social network users?
More thoughts once I am fully into Buzz. It would be great if you could share your thoughts, especially if you’re already buzzing and being buzzed
